Effective October 14, 2026
The Work Redesign is a newsletter and website written by Matt Thornton, at matthewthorntonstudio.com. This page explains what information I collect when you visit or subscribe, what I do with it, and what you can ask me to do about it. Where it says "I" or "me", that's Matt.
What I collect
When you subscribe: your email address. The signup form asks for nothing else.
When you log in or comment: your email address, the name you show with your comments, and what you write in them. You can log in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with a password if you set one.
When you write back: whatever you put in your email. Replies come straight to my inbox.
When you visit the site or open an email: basic usage information, such as which pages you visit, roughly where you are (country or region), what device and browser you use, and how you got here. The email service also records whether you opened an email and which links you clicked.
How I use it
To send you The Work Redesign every two weeks, plus a welcome email when you join.
To read and answer your replies.
To show your comments on the site.
To see which pieces people read, so I can write better ones.
I don't sell, rent or trade your information. I don't run ads on the site or in the newsletter.
Who else handles it
Two services help me run this, and they handle your information on my behalf:
Beehiiv runs the newsletter and the website. It stores the subscriber list, sends the emails, and manages logins and comments. Beehiiv's own privacy policy is at beehiiv.com/privacy.
Google Analytics counts visits to the website and shows me how people use it. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
I may also share information if the law requires it.
The site uses cookies, which are small files your browser stores. They keep you logged in, remember your choices, and power Google Analytics. When you first visit, a banner lets you choose. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, though logging in may not.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There's no agreed standard for what a website should do with it, so this site doesn't change how it behaves when it receives one. Use the cookie banner or your browser settings to limit tracking.
How long I keep it
I keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, the newsletter service keeps a record that you unsubscribed, so you don't get emailed again by mistake. Google keeps analytics data for a limited time, then deletes it automatically. If you want everything removed, ask me (see below).
Your choices and rights
Unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
Ask what I hold about you, and I'll tell you.
Ask me to correct it or delete it, and I will, unless the law requires me to keep something.
Turn off cookies with the banner or your browser.
To ask for any of this, email [email protected]. I'll answer within 30 days, usually much sooner. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under your local law. Ask, and I'll honor them where they apply.
Where your information lives
Beehiiv and Google store information on servers in the United States. If you subscribe from outside the US, your information goes there.
Keeping it safe
Beehiiv and Google protect the information they hold with industry-standard security. No system is perfectly secure, so I can't promise nothing will ever go wrong. If something does, and it affects you, I'll tell you.
Children
I write The Work Redesign for adults who run businesses. No one under 16 should subscribe, and I don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has subscribed, email me and I'll remove them.
Changes to this policy
If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top. If the change matters, such as collecting something new, I'll also mention it in the newsletter.
